Duke’s Hot; Tennessee’s Not

Christan Braswell February 20, 2026

Thursday night is normally one of the busiest days of the week for the top squads in women’s college basketball. We were treated to three top-25 matchups in the SEC and plenty of drama to end them. Before we jump straight into this week’s edition of Swish Happens Here, it’s time to debut a new segment in the column.   Who’s Hot and Who’s Not Hot – Duke: 20-6 (15-0 ACC)  The Blue Devils were originally at No. 7 in the AP top 25 to start the season. Less than a month into it, they dropped six of their nine […]

Confuddled Coaches: A week of transparency in post game pressers

Christan Braswell February 13, 2026

As March Madness rapidly approaches at this point in the season, games start to take on a new level of meaning and importance towards seeding for the tournament. If Thursday night was any indication of what lies ahead, we are surely in for a treat this year.  We start this week’s edition of Swish Happens Here in the Lone Star State, where No. 17 TCU defeated No. 12 Baylor rather handily, 83-67. The final score is a bit misleading, as the Horned Frogs led through 97 percent of the game and led by as much as 21. TCU scored 52 […]

Thursday Theatrics: Mikayla Blakes drops 37 on Kentucky, No. 19 Tennessee escapes Georgia in OT

Christan Braswell February 6, 2026

Women’s college basketball registered several phenomenal performances from teams and players alike last night.  Facing No. 6 Louisville, No. 17 Duke ignited an 11-1 run to lead 57-50 with less than four minutes in the fourth quarter. Louisville struggled to maintain the level of consistency needed to beat a Kara Lawson-coached Blue Devils team. The Cardinals missed their first nine attempts of the game and went 0-for-9 down the stretch, which ultimately led to the loss after Louisville’s Imari Berry missed free throws. Duke stands as the only unbeaten team in ACC play.  If you thought the cardiac hoops ended […]

Weekend madness in women’s college basketball starts today in Birmingham

Christan Braswell January 30, 2026

Like objects in a car mirror, March is closer than it may appear to be in collegiate play. With more programs than not battling through tough conference games, the wins and losses mean just a bit more at this point in the schedule.  For example, the Alabama Crimson Tide lost two straight games against Auburn and Tennessee before regaining control, rattling off back-to-back wins against Georgia and Mississippi State. Interestingly, the Lady Vols suffered one of their more questionable losses of the season last night to the same Mississippi State team. In all conferences and especially the SEC, guaranteed wins […]

Thursday Night Theatrics: Recapping one of the best nights in women’s college hoops

Christan Braswell January 23, 2026

Thursday night in women’s college basketball delivered in more ways than one, with a loaded slate featuring championship contenders, teams on the rise, ones attempting to find their footing, and one of the biggest upsets in recent memory. Let us jump straight into the thick of it. No. 16 Oklahoma upsets No. 2 South Carolina in the city of Norman, 94-82 Entering conference play with a perfect 13-0 record, the Oklahoma women’s basketball team went on to claim blowout wins over Texas A&M and Mississippi State. Then, a bit of controversy ensued with three straight losses to Ole Miss, Kentucky, […]

True basketball fans don’t care about Unrivaled’s TV ratings

Christan Braswell January 16, 2026

Growing up as a sports fan on the south side of Chicago, I was spoiled. The Bulls were a perennial disappointment, but the Blackhawks owned the 2010s with three Stanley Cups in six years. The Bulls had a nice run, but trading Jimmy Butler in 2017 was the end of my support for the franchise. Yes, I’m one of those people. You ask around the city, and there are a plethora of folks who will say the same thing. The highlight of my sports fandom included two other championships hoisted by the Indiana Fever in 2011 and the Cubs in […]

Sunday Servings: The top two matchups of the weekend

Christan Braswell January 9, 2026

Women’s college basketball is serving a jam-packed Sunday this weekend. Through one full week into the New Year, this round of games holds a bit of early meaning for several teams spanning multiple conferences. Early upsets are shaping storylines nearly every night in conference play. In that spirit, it’s only right to kick off this week’s column with one of the most anticipated matchups. No. 5 Oklahoma vs. No. 6 Kentucky The Sooners benefited nicely as the teams above them in the poll succumbed to upsets, but the team had one of its own around the corner with a stunning […]

Conference play delivers on first night of hoops in college ranks

Christan Braswell January 2, 2026

After two months of non-conference play and endless blowouts, conference play kicked off last night in women’s college basketball with a flurry of high-powered matchups. From conference to conference, the night of hoops certainly delivered to jumpstart the New Year. Let’s rehash two of the most anticipated matchups: No. 3 South Carolina handles Alabama, 83-57 After a tightly contested first half at 40-36 in favor of South Carolina, the Gamecocks appeared to have woken up after halftime, outscoring Alabama 40-23 in the second half without senior guard Ta’Niya Latson. Homegrown star Joyce Edwards finished with a season-high 25 points on […]

The South Carolina Gamecocks’ recruiting efforts aren’t appreciated enough

Christan Braswell December 26, 2025

When A’ja Wilson took her talents to the WNBA in 2018, many wondered how the South Carolina Gamecocks women’s basketball program would recover without its superstar talent. After helping raise the program’s first championship banner in 2017 and reaching the Elite Eight the following season, the chatter only increased. After the 2018-19 season, the Gamecocks lost 10 games, which was the highest amount under Hall of Famer Dawn Staley in nearly eight seasons. One day, a book will be written about the program’s remarkable overnight rebound to the national stage. Destanni Henderson committed to South Carolina ahead of the 2018-19 […]

Underrated: Two freshmen talents flying under the radar

Christan Braswell December 19, 2025

Collegiate stars with household names like Angel Reese, Paige Bueckers, and Caitlin Clark matriculated to the WNBA, leaving a power vacuum across the field as elite talents across the country continue with their own journeys. The parity in this class is like no other in recent memory, which normally means players fly under the radar, despite their skill sets or abilities.  This season is full of athletes who fit the bill, especially as freshmen. We’ve seen and heard of the praises of USC’s Jazzy Davidson, who leads the No. 19 Trojans in points (16), rebounds (6.7), assists (3.9), and blocks […]
